We all love traveling, but the truth is that it can be quite expensive. However, if you know the right places, you can enjoy the atmosphere, experience the true genius loci, and still have money left over for a nice dinner.

Museums and galleries

Soaking up art is a must. Fortunately, not every gallery charges admission, so you can lift your spirits for free.

You can visit the Jiří Švestka Gallery, the New Gallery, the oval Gallery in Main Point Karlín, the Trčkovská Gallery in the basement of the Wallenstein Palace, the Old Town Hall - Architects' Hall, the PRE Gallery, and if you are lucky enough to visit Prague in February, you can visit the National Gallery for free, which offers free admission on the anniversary of its founding. You should also not miss the Lapidarium Gallery, which houses sculptures by Baroque masters.

As for museums, don't miss the Museum of the Infant Jesus of Prague. If you are more technically minded, you will be delighted. The PRE Technical and Documentation Museum, the Gas Museum, the Prague Waterworks Museum in the Podolská Waterworks, the Kbely Aviation Museum, the Žižkov Army Museum, and the CNB - "People and Money" are all free.

Muzea a galerie

Nasát umění, to je potřeba. Naštěstí ne každá galerie je placená, a tak si můžete pozvednout ducha i zadarmo. 

Z galerií můžete navštívit Galerii Jiřího Švestky, Novou galerii, oválnou Galerii v Main Point Karlín, Trčkovská galerie ve sklepních prostorách Valdštejnského paláce, Staroměstská radnice - Sál architektů, Galerie PRE a když budete mít štěstí a navštívíte Prahu v únoru, tak se zdarma dostanete do Národní galerie, která má vstup k výročí jejího založení zdarma. Neměli byste minou ani Galerii Lapidárium, kde jsou sochy z rukou barokních mistrů.

Z muzeí pak nevynechejte Muzeum Pražského Jezulátka. Jestli jste více technicky zaměření, tak můžete jásat. Zdarma je tu totiž Technické a dokumentační muzeum PRE, Plynárenské muzeum, Muzeum Pražského vodárenství v Podolské vodárně, Letecké muzeum Kbely a Armádní muzeum Žižkov a ČNB -  "Lidé a peníze".

Sights

As is well known, Prague is full of sightseeing attractions, and it would be a shame to miss them. Especially when they won't break your budget.

One of the most famous sights is the Golden Lane at Prague Castle. There is usually an admission fee, but if you come at the right time, you can visit it completely free of charge. During the season, come after 6 p.m., and outside the season, after 4 p.m.

St. Vitus Cathedral welcomes you free of charge to its neo-Gothic front section. You can visit the Wallenstein Palace (Senate) without paying an entrance fee, but it depends on the time and season.

Visiting Prague's cemeteries may not be for everyone, but surprisingly, you won't be bored there either. The Olšany Cemetery and Slavín are the final resting places of many famous people.

At the Maltese Garden, look for the Lennon Wall with lyrics from Beatles songs. The wall is a symbol of freedom, and a photo there is a must.

Památky 

Jak je známo, Praha je plná památek a byla by škoda je minout. Zvlášť když jsou vám nezruinují budget. 

Jednou se známých památek je Zlatá ulička na Pražském hradě. Ta se tedy běžně platí, když ale přijdete v ten správný čas, můžete si ji projít zcela zdarma. V sezoně přijďte po 18. hodině a mimo sezonu už po 16. hodině. 

Katedrála sv. Víta vás zdarma přivítá do své přední novogotické části. Do Valdštejnského paláce (Senát) se dostanete bez vstupného, záleží ale na časech a ročním období. 

Návštěva pražských hřbitovů nemusí být pro každého, ale kupodivu ani tam se nudit nebudete. Olšanské hřbitovy nebo Slavín jsou místa posledního odpočinku mnoha slavných lidí. 

U Maltézské zahrady hledejte Lennonovu zeď s texty písní od Beatles, zeď je symbolem svobody a fotka u ní je nezbytností.

Other places worth visiting

You can book a tour of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic or watch panel discussions between politicians from the gallery.

Libraries are not just for bookworms, so even if you are not a fan of books, go and visit the Central Library of the Municipal Library in Prague. You will be pleasantly surprised by your visit, and you can also relax in this oasis of calm.

Next to the Emmaus Monastery is CAMP - the Center for Architecture and Urban Planning, where you will find many books on architecture, a hall where various events are held, and a café.

You can take a break from intellectual pursuits at the DDM Natural Science Station, where they have kangaroos and donkeys, or at the Botanical Garden of the Faculty of Science of Charles University, where there is a free outdoor exhibition. Another well-known botanical garden is the one in Troja, which also has free outdoor exhibitions.

In the middle of Prague, there is a place where you will feel like you are in the countryside. Nový Svět is a small district adjacent to Prague Castle and is absolutely charming.

Další místa, která stojí za to

Do Poslanecké sněmovny Parlamentu ČR si lze objednat exkurzi nebo i z ochozu sledovat panelové diskuze politiků. 

Knihovny nepatří jen knihomolům, proto se běžte, i vy, co knihám neholdujete, podívat do Ústřední knihovny Městské knihovny v Praze. Její návštěva vás mile překvapí a navíc si v této oáze klidu odpočinete. 

U emauzského kláštera se nachází CAMP - Centrum architektury a městského plánování, kde je spousta knih o architektuře, sál, v němž se konají různé akce a také kavárna. 

Odpočinout od intelektuálních věcí si lze ve Stanici přírodovědců DDM, kde mají klokany a oslíky nebo v Botanické zahradě Přírodovědecké fakulty UK, kde je venkovní expozice bez poplatku. Známou botanickou zahradou je i ta v Troji, kde jsou též venkovní expozice zdarma.

Uprostřed Prahy se nachází místo, kde si budete připadat jako na vesnici. Nový svět je malá čtvrť přiléhající k Pražskému hradu a je naprosto kouzelná.

Parks

After seeing all the sightseeing spots, it's time to relax, have a picnic, and enjoy the greenery. There are many parks in Prague, and it's likely that wherever you are, there will be one nearby.

Be sure to try Královská obora Stromovka, Riegrovy sady, Folimanka, Divoká Šárka forest park, Parukářka, Grébovka park in the Italian Renaissance style, and the French Baroque-style garden at Troja Castle, as well as Prokopské údolí and many others.

You can also find oases of peace right in the center—the Franciscan Garden is a short walk from Wenceslas Square, the Wallenstein Garden and Vojanovy sady are in Malá Strana, look for the Royal Gardens in the Prague Castle complex, and you will find the Kinsky and Seminary Gardens on the slopes of Petřín Hill.

Parky

Po všech těch památkách je nejvyšší čas si odpočinout, dát si piknik a zadívat se do zeleně. V Praze je velké množství parků a je pravděpodobné, že ať už se nacházíte kdekoliv, tak poblíž nějaký bude. 

Zkuste určitě Královskou oboru Stromovku, Riegrovy sady, Folimanku, lesopark Divoká Šárka, Parukářku, park Grébovka ve stylu italské renesance, naopak ve stylu francouzského baroka je tu zahrada u Trojského zámku, dále Prokopské údolí a mnoho dalších. 

Oázy klidu najdete i přímo v centru - Františkánská zahrada je kousek od Václavského náměstí, Valdštejnskou zahradu a Vojanovy sady najdete na Malé Straně, v areálu Pražského hradu hledejte Královské zahrady a Kinského a Seminářskou zahradu objevíte na úbočí Petřína.
